This unique patchwork wall hanging is handmade from a collection of vintage Japanese kimono fabrics once used for young girls’ kimono and festive garments.
Although the exact age of each fabric piece is unknown, many of the textiles appear to date from the mid-20th century, featuring traditional Japanese motifs such as cranes, flowers, fans, and playful seasonal patterns in vibrant shades of red — a colour long associated in Japan with celebration, protection, and childhood happiness.
Each fabric fragment carries its own history and character, carefully combined to create a one-of-a-kind textile artwork that blends traditional Japanese beauty with contemporary patchwork craftsmanship. The rich colours and joyful patterns bring warmth and elegance to both Japanese and modern interiors.
