This antique kokeshi doll was made by Sadao Kobayashi (1933-2020).
He was one of the leading craftsmen of “Yuda Kokeshi,” a style of traditional kokeshi dolls made in Nishiwaga, Iwate Prefecture (formerly Yuda Town). Yuda Kokeshi are known for their unique character while still reflecting the influence of the Togatta tradition.
